Al-Ahly club decided to withdraw from the Egyptian Cup and the Super Cup and to complete the rest of the league matches with the junior team, while it was reported that “severe penalties” awaited the “Red Devils” in the event that their administrations implement their feast of withdrawal.
The most popular club in Egypt had taken that decision, Thursday evening, in opposition to the arbitration, as the club’s management and fans believe that their team was subjected to a great injustice in its last two league matches by not calculating “correct goals” for the team.
Al-Ahly had lost 4 points after its draw with the “Arab Contractors” and then with Farco Club, which made it move away from the struggle for the league title, which has become much closer to its rival, Zamalek, who hopes to win the league for the second year in a row.
Al-Ahly has 56 points from 27 games and is in third place, 3 points behind second-placed Pyramids, and 10 points from leaders Zamalek.
Al-Ahly demanded, after a meeting of its board of directors, the dismissal of the Referees Committee, which he said had “lost its integrity and credibility,” and the suspension of the video assistant referee in his last match against Farco until “an investigation into what happened to him,” after the latter canceled a goal for the Red Genie for infiltration.
In a related context, the “Masrawy” website stated, on Friday, that there are “severe penalties” awaiting the club if it decides to withdraw from the Egyptian Cup and the Egyptian Super Cup.
Al-Ahly is scheduled to play against Misr El-Makassa on August 14 in the round of 16 of the Egypt Cup, after the runners-up of the last edition managed to pass the obstacle of Al-Masr Al-Salloum in the round of 32.
Article 62 of the Regulations of the Competitions Committee for the current season 2021-2022 states that “in the event that a team withdraws from the Egypt Cup after the start of the tournament, its name will be removed from the table, and the opposing team in the match is considered a winner with a score of 2-0.”
It also states that “in the event that a team withdraws from the tournament after the round of 32, it will be subject to a fine of 20 times the value of the competition entry fee.”
The same article also states that “the withdrawing team shall be deprived of participating in the next season of the competition.”
Al-Ahly will face its rivals Zamalek on October 28 at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in the Emirati city of Al-Ain in the Egyptian Super Cup.
And according to Article 64 of the competition regulations, “If the runner-up of the cup apologizes for playing the Egyptian Super Cup match for any reason, the match will be held between the league champion and his runner-up, and then in order in the event of the apology.”
Article 67 of the regulation also states that “the Egyptian Super Cup match is subject to the regulations of competitions and players’ affairs, and the conditions set by the Competitions Committee for this match.”
